More than 200 young girls finished their preparation in urban & contemporary dance and boxing under a joint venture of the Goethe-Institute, Pakistan and Alliance Francaise de Karachi (AFK), funded by the France-German Cultural Fund, ‘Girl Power’, which finished on Saturday.

The initiative which started on December 1, ‘Girl Power’ was aimed at youth and specifically girls, to give them a space to express their aspirations, creativity and talents through movement and sports. The mega city of Karachi has a lack of locations and opportunities in sports and culture for the younger generation that is the majority of the population. The project consists in workshops boxing and dance (especially for girls), plus a DJ as a closing event. Female dancers and boxers have been invited from other countries to share their passion for dance and sport with the Karachi girls. The Goethe-Institut collaborated and organized the Dance workshops and the Alliance Française de Karachi gave the boxing trainings and workshops. The project is funded by the French-German Cultural Fund that was established by the Foreign Ministries of France and Germany. These training sessions were held at boxing clubs of Lyari, Raging Bull Boxing Club in Clifton, AFK and the National Academy of Performing Arts. Training workshops were serious, interactive and gainful for both trainers and members.

There is such a great amount of potential in these young girls,” at a public interview before the closing of occasion. “We trained them with new techniques and a different point of view,” said Sejda, including that it had been a fantastic experience. “This has been an extraordinary experience for us,” said Mariam, including that there was a great deal of potential in Lyari however the young ladies truly need to deal with their procedure. These days were intense moments of exchanges and meetings between girls and three countries.

As indicated by Emanuel, the venture had been a decent and rich experience. “This is the first run through every one of us are in Pakistan and it has been somewhat of an adventure,” he said. “We invested a great deal of energy with the young ladies and think we will miss them the most. It will be troublesome for us to desert our new companions,” he added.

“Through Girl Power we made a space and gave young ladies the chance to convey what needs be,” Director of Goethe-Institut Stefan Winkler said, including that they might want more young ladies to take an interest in future tasks.
