Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has threatened New Zealand for backing anti-settlement United Nation’s resolution. Benjamin Netanyahu told New Zealand’s foreign minister that Israel will consider the support for UN resolution against Israeli settlement building in occupied territories would be considered as a “declaration of war”. Netanyahu said, “If you continue to promote this resolution, from our point of view it will be a declaration of war. It will rupture the relations and there will be consequences. We’ll recall our ambassador to Jerusalem.”
This resolution against settlement building in occupied territories in Palestine was put forward by New Zealand, Senegal, Malaysia and Venezuela, just one day after Egypt withdrew it due to immense pressure from both Israel and United States.
Palestinian people have welcomed this move. Palestinian spokesman from President Mahmoud Abbas’ office said “big blow to Israeli policy, a unanimous international condemnation of settlements, and a strong support for the two-state solution”.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has been building the settlement for last many years after getting into power. The World view it as a threat to the peace deal in the Middle East. The International community views these settlement buildings in occupied land as illegal. The UN resolution against settlement will hurt Israel. However, analysts think that it will hardly stop Israel for building settlements.
