Shakarparian National Park
A large, green hilltop park in the middle of the city, next to the Pakistan Monument and Lok Virsa, with pine-shaded walking tracks, picnic spots and viewpoints over Islamabad, the Margallas and Faisal Mosque. Entry and parking are free, and sunset is the best time to go.
Fatima Jinnah Park
Islamabad's largest park, in F-9: a vast, semi-wild green space with long jogging, walking and cycling tracks, sports courts, a big kids' play area and picnic spots. It's peaceful on weekday mornings and busy with families at weekends.
Daman-e-Koh
A hillside viewpoint in the Margalla Hills above E-7 with sweeping views over the city, Rawal Lake and Faisal Mosque, plus manicured gardens and a restaurant. Expect cheeky monkeys, and go early on a weekday to avoid the crowds.
Lake View Park
A large park on the shore of Rawal Lake in Islamabad, with lakeside walks, gardens, an aviary, boating and rides for children.
Kachnar Park
A well-kept park in I-8 with a 2.2 km main jogging loop and a parallel track, lush greenery, benches, gazebos, an open-air gym and play areas. It's peaceful for morning and evening walks, and dog-friendly.
Japanese Children Park
A popular children's park at the foot of Daman-e-Koh on Margalla Road, gifted by the government of Japan, with swings, slides, a dragon ride, horse riding and open lawns for picnics. Entry is free, and it's always full of families.
Dino Valley
A dinosaur-themed amusement park on Pir Sohawa Road in the Margalla Hills, with life-size moving dinosaurs, dino shows, a 12D motion ride, kids' rides and a cable car and chair lift up to a viewpoint. It's cashless, so bring a card.
