Lahore has been called the City of Gardens since Mughal times, and its green spaces are still the heart of city life — from the formal terraces of Shalimar and the sprawling lawns of Bagh-e-Jinnah to Jallo Park and the riverside green of Race Course.
These are the parks Lahore loves most, good for a morning jog, a family picnic or an evening stroll when the heat breaks.
Race Course (Jilani Park) Lahore
Lahore's Race Course park, Jilani Park, on Jail Road: about 88 acres of lawns and flower gardens with a 3 km jogging track, a boating lake, an artificial waterfall and a polo ground. There are few play facilities for young children.
Bagh-e-Jinnah
Lahore's historic Lawrence Gardens, now Bagh-e-Jinnah, on The Mall: a large, shady park with a botanical garden, ancient trees, walking paths, sports grounds and the Quaid-e-Azam Library. It's a peaceful spot for a morning walk.
Model Town Park
A large, much-loved park at the heart of Model Town with a long jogging track through dense trees, a boating lake, peacocks, sports courts and a canteen. It's peaceful and well suited to morning runs and family picnics.
Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park
A 67-acre family park in Allama Iqbal Town with an artificial lake for boating, a mini zoo, rides, a zip line and wall climbing, plus jogging tracks. Entry is free; some facilities could use maintenance.
Jallo Park
A 461-acre park on the outskirts of Lahore near the Wagah road, founded in 1978, with a botanical garden, a wildlife breeding centre with deer and peacocks, boating, picnic huts and a sports complex. You need a car to get around it.
Greater Iqbal Park
The huge park around Minar-e-Pakistan opposite the Badshahi Mosque, with open lawns, dancing fountains, an artificial lake, a national history museum and horse rides. It's best combined with a visit to the Fort and the mosque; agree shoe-keeper prices first.
Shalimar Gardens
The Mughal garden laid out by Shah Jahan in 1641–42 on the GT Road, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with three descending terraces, marble pavilions and hundreds of fountains; restoration work sometimes closes sections and the fountains don't always run.
Sheeba Park
A small, well-kept neighbourhood park in DHA Phase 3, Block Y, with a rubberised jogging track, bird cages and peacocks. It's peaceful for morning and evening walks; shorts are discouraged.
