Islamabad has a reputation for being too tidy to have street food. Spend one evening in Melody or Aabpara and that idea dies quickly. The capital's best cheap eating happens in its markaz markets — sector squares where the parking fills at eight and the pulao runs out by ten.
This is the other Islamabad: plate pulao eaten standing up, chaat from a cart in a G-sector market, and chai with the Margallas going dark behind you. None of it is expensive and all of it is better than it needs to be.

The capital's evening canteen — pulao, karahi, rolls and juices in one noisy square. Come early or queue.
Savour Foods
Plate pulao with the pickled onions and that unmistakable green chutney. A twin-city institution; they sell out, so don't drift in late.
Aabpara Market
Chaat, fruit chaat, samosas and dahi bhallay from carts that have been parked here for decades.

The polished end of the scale — coffee, kulfi and quick bites, with the best market people-watching in the city.
Kohsar Market
Coffee, shawarma and late chai under old trees. The evening crowd is half the atmosphere.

A sprawling market where the food is cheap, fast and aimed squarely at students. Great rolls, better prices.
Boom Boom Hot N Spicy
Halwa puri and cholay that pull a proper Sunday-morning queue. Go with people you don't mind being quiet around.
Sector F-11 Markaz
A dense run of counters and dhabas — the go-to when you want variety without leaving the car for long.
Pir Sohawa Road
Roadside chai stops on the way up the Margallas. The tea is ordinary; the view down over the city is not.
Blue Area Food Stalls
Office-lunch territory — biryani, chana chaat and rolls from carts, cleared away by evening.
F-6 Super Market Food Court
The original markaz. Bakeries, kulfi and one of the better ice-cream runs in the capital.
Sadar Bazaar Rawalpindi Road Dhabas
Truck-stop dhabas on the Pindi side — daal, tandoori roti and tea at prices that haven't caught up with the city.
Chaaye Khana
Kashmiri chai and parathas in a courtyard setting. A soft landing if you want the flavours without the cart.

A purpose-built strip that gathers most of the capital's desi favourites into one walkable row.
