Sharda and Kel are towns in the upper Neelum Valley. Sharda, at about 1,981 metres on the Neelum River, is known for the ruins of Sharada Peeth, one of South Asia’s foremost temple universities between the 6th and 12th centuries, while Kel has hotels, a government rest house and a bazaar, with the hilltop village of Arang Kel above it.
