Mingora and neighbouring Saidu Sharif are the twin centres of the Swat Valley, on the Swat River, and Mingora is the largest city in the north of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The area is rich in Buddhist-era remains such as the Butkara Stupa, and it is the starting point for trips up the valley to Malam Jabba, Bahrain and Kalam.
