Skardu

Skardu is the capital of Baltistan, spread across a wide valley at about 2,500 metres where the Shigar River joins the Indus. It is the gateway to the eight-thousand-metre peaks of the Karakoram, and just outside town lie the Kachura lakes, including Lower Kachura, better known as Shangrila Lake, with a resort on its shore since 1983.
